Cambodia Day 5: Cycling Siem Reap & Monk's Blessing

On our last day in Cambodia we had scheduled a bike tour.  I have to admit that once I became familiar with the heat and humidity of Cambodia this time of year, I was a little less excited about our cycling tour than I was when I booked it!  Not to mention Siem Reap is a pretty chaotic city to navigate on wheels, so we were a little intimidated.  But it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in Cambodia.  There is something really liberating and exhilarating about being on a bicycle.

The decorative, colourful stars all over Siem Reap in preparation for the new year festivities taking place the day after our departure.

All set on our bicycles to tour Siem Reap

Our first temple stop to meet with Buddhist monks who would answer all of our questions about Buddhism and essentially give us the Buddhist first discussion.  I love how many similarities I find among religions when the time is actually taken to learn about them.  At the end we were given a special blessing with water by the monks, which was lovely.  A wonderful experience.

Our last temple stop, and we find another new year celebration, this time a 5-tower sand castle that is customary for the new year festivities.

The kids with our wonderful guide, Yut.  Such a lovely, kind man.  We really enjoyed spending our time in Cambodia with him.  Cambodia is a truly special place, and we are grateful to have been able to visit!
