It's Colder in London Than It Is in Iceland

Yeah, you read that correctly.  Today it was 1° in London and 5° in Iceland!  Despite the fact that this means my over 100 year-old house has pretty much turned into a giant of a refrigerator (it has zero insulation and a pretty wimpy heating system), the cold weather has at least now been accompanied by some snow!  London gets one or two decent snows per year, which is just enough in my book.  I don't fancy living with many weeks of snow that you can measure in feet and not inches!  Because London doesn't see the kind of snow some places do, it pretty much grinds to a halt when any measurable amount shows up.  In keeping with that school closed early Friday when snow started to fall and we had snow days off from church on Sunday and school today.

Is it a mirage, or is that really an igloo over there?

When we stumbled up this pretty impressive igloo complete with a slide on the backside the kids were in utter delight.  Madeleine squealed "This is a dream come true!"  Thank you stranger igloo builder!

Waxing Six

A dear friend who came to stay with last spring us left us a pretty nice hostess gift, a pass for a couple free entries for our family to any of the Merlin Group attractions through the end of 2012.  We used it to go to Legoland and then used it to go to Madame Tussauds, an immensely popular (and expensive) attraction here in London that we never felt inclined to fork out the £ for.  But with our pass in hand what better opportunity to satisfy our curiosity of this place.  It was lots of fun.  Can't say I'd have had as much fun had we paid, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but it was good fun seeing all the wax figures of famous people from various arenas.  Some were incredibly real looking, freakishly so.

She had no clue who this was.

This was my favourite!  It was so interesting to get to size up these people.  Some are much taller (or shorter) in actual size than I had expected.

Trevon is 6!  I can't believe how quickly he is growing up.  This birthday was a bit bitter sweet for me. He is growing into such a wonderful, smart, cheerful, fun little boy, but I am holding on to every bit of little I can while it lasts.  It seems far too fleeting now.

We had a great day celebrating with a trip to the cinema to see Madagascar 3, lunch at a Chinese restaurant and a pizza movie night at home followed by cake and presents!

Happy Birthday, Trevon!
