Cambodia Day 4: Angkor Wat and More

Today's agenda included the piece de resistance of Cambodia, Angkor Wat.  Scott got me a travel book last year that ranked the world's most magnificent places, and Angkor Wat was number one on that list.  We rose early, like 4:30am kind of early, to reach Ankor Wat before sunrise.  It was a long, but stunning day.

Zipping through the early morning streets of Siem Reap on tuk tuk.

Sunrise over Angkor Wat

The place quickly fills with tourists and temperatures rapidly rise soon after the sunrises.

Just amazing to step inside the top of Angkor Wat

Our next stop was to see Bayon with over 200 of these giant Buddha faces carved in this temple.  It was amazing to walk among them and explore this place, despite the hundreds of Chinese tourists!

First coconut water of the trip, and a silly "Cambodian" number game

Our final stop of the day was to visit the tree strangled Ta-Phrom Temple, of Tomb Raider fame.

After an afternoon swim and nap at the hotel we headed back to Angkor Wat to see it in a new light, just before sunset.  I was so glad we were able to see it twice.  So different by sunrise and by sunset.

A fun evening exploring Siem Reap after a yummy Italian meal (sometimes you need a break from the local food!)

And dessert at our favourite and very unique eatery a few doors down from our hotel, this very interesting Japanese fruit-based restaurant serving fruit pancakes and fruit ice mountains.  It was amazing, so of course we went twice!
