When you're planning an itinerary that includes Phuket, Thailand and then Singapore, it's hard not to look at the map and want to shoehorn a quickie trip to Malaysia. And even harder to resist when there is a cheap airline that can make that happen for you for next to nothing! So that's what we did! Instead of flying from Phuket directly to Singapore we sacrificed a lazy morning, got up with the sun and flew down to Kuala Lumpur to spend the day there before flying to Singapore later that evening. It was a hectic kind of day, but totally worth it to tick it off the travel list. The Patronas Towers have been on my list for a while, and checking another country off the list is always fun. We hired a driver to zip us around the city and with the short few hours we had, we were able to see quite a lot!

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Our first stop was this magnificent Chinese temple, Thean Hou Temple. It was gorgeous and had a great view of the KL skyline from the top.
We made a quick stop to see the National Mosque, which is the most contemporary looking mosque I have ever seen.
We visited Independence Square, which marks a few important parts of Malaysian history. It's also home to the world's tallest flag pole!
Patronas Towers from a distance. They are difficult to photograph at this distance because there are lots of other buildings all around the city that obstruct them from view.
A visit up close to the Patronas Towers
We concluded our day in KL with a visit up to the top of the Patronas Towers, which was really neat!
