Baroness Thatcher

Today I joined thousands of others lining the streets of London to witness the funeral procession of Margaret Thatcher.  Unlike many other gatherings throughout the city this week in reaction to Thatcher's death, this one was surprisingly peaceful.  She is certainly one of the most divisive figures in Britain, even in death.  People are passionate about their love and loathing of her.  One of the surprising elements of the day, apart from the general lack of overbearing protests, was the rather friendly political chatter on the streets.  Of course there were scattered boos among all the clapping, but from my observations nothing really got too out of hand.  I wanted to see the procession from start to finish, so I walked nearly the entire length.  I was fortunate enough to see Thatcher's casket pass twice, and along this walk I witnessed many heated, but good natured sidewalk political debates.  I was fascinated by all arguments, and found the whole scene compelling.  I love being a witness to history.
