We spent the third week in the heart of the Amalfi Coast. We stayed in a glorious villa right on the coast near Positano and spent the week exploring the entire stretch of the Amalfi Coast. Because the area is so empty what would normally be a congested circus exploring this area in late July/early August was nothing but a breezy delight. The Amalfi Coast is a stunning part of Italy, rich in scenery and sparse in real estate. We braved the cliff-dangling roads and explored the coast on our own (against every recommendation I read). The absence of heavy crowds had a massively positive impact on our experience. Drives that would normally take an hour this time of year were taking us 10 minutes, and parking was likewise easy compared to the usual impossibility. In a normal year, visiting this part of Italy would probably be far less enjoyable, and so I'm grateful we were able to make a visit here this year to take advantage of the unusual conditions. During our three weeks in the area we only heard one other American accent anywhere, which is shocking during high season for an area so popular for Americans. We found ourselves explaining our story to a lot of people when they heard our voices and discovered we were Americans, very grateful Americans with dual citizenship and greater travel accessibility!

We pretty much perfected bruschetta. Kinda proud.
On our last day we dropped off our rental car at the airport, stashed our bags and took a taxi for a quick afternoon visit to central Naples. It's a colourful city that reminded me a bit of Palermo with a dash of Khatmandu. Not a terribly relaxing or beautiful place, but certainly interesting. And of course, the pizza! We had our taxi driver divert us to a pizzeria where only the locals eat. It was amazing! Best pizza and so cheap, and most of all no crazy queue. We were literally the only tourists in the whole joint.
Until next time, Italy!

Ha! I had no idea you were still blogging. I'm so grateful. I just randomly checked and was pleasantly surprised! I made it all the way to Halloween 2019. Some observations:
1) You're a fabulous photographer
2) Oh, how I miss travel, and especially Europe
3) I've always wanted to visit Savannah...your pics are so beautiful
4) 3 weeks on the Italian coast without tourists. Ay-yie-yie!!!
Thanks for the get-a-way!
XO!
Really love your shoot and i think that memorable moment
