Nepal Part 6: Everest and Beyond

Our second touring day began on a high.  Planning a trip to Nepal our sights quickly set on the Himalayas, and specifically finding a way to see Mt. Everest with the short time we had.  Short of making the epic ascent there are a few different ways to lay eyes on Everest.  We decided to maximise our time and go with the quickest way possible to see Everest.  We rose early to catch a mountain flight on none other than Buddha Air.  It's a quick trip up and down, but in a small plane where every seat is a window seat it's a guaranteed way to see Everest.  With my 400m lens I was able to capture some pretty decent photos of the peak even through a plane window.  Such a rush to actually see the tallest mountain in the world!

And there it is!  Mt Everest!

Back on terra firma we explore more of Kathmandu and surroundings beginning with the Boudhanath Stuppa, which suffered significant damage in the 2015 earthquake.

Bricks such as these are everywhere in Kathmandu, some fallen from the quake of 2015 and others piled ready for rebuilding.

Our next stop was a visit to the Swayambhunath Stupa.  It's quite a climb to the top, but well worth the effort.

A little tired of Nepali cuisine we opted for a decidedly western meal at a nearby Pizza Hut.  It was an interesting Pizza Hut experience, but did the job.  We topped off the meal with ice-cream at Baskin Robbins across the street at the Sherpa Mall!
