I was hired to a shoot a wedding this summer, which spawned a big trip to the US for the whole family. Shooting a full wedding solo is akin to birthing a child, and utter exhaustion was the final result. Thus I have zero photos of our time in the area with family there after, which truthfully is quite sad. But it just takes two seconds thinking back to that time and I'm instantly reminded why. Holy cow! I distinctly remember at the end of the night (after nearly 12 full hours on my feet choreographing and photographing laden with many pounds of gear) feeling just broken. So utterly broken. I could hardly stand, and felt my knees giving way and had to turn all my gear over to my roadie (my darling husband) for real fear that I might collapse. After a heavy dose of pain killers and a desperately needed good night's sleep (never mind the jet-lag) I was ready to never touch my camera again. Ever. So this is why I have no record of our time with extended family in South Carolina or the lovely few days with my in-laws in Florida.
What better antidote for this flavour of exhaustion than a week of rest and relaxation on one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Yes please! It was just what the doctor ordered (that and a massage and loads more pain killers!). Thanks to grandparents in Florida, Scott and I managed to escape for a few days to the beautiful island nation of the Turks & Caicos. My objectives for this trip did not include culture, sightseeing or adventure, but rather the aim here was to plant ourselves on a gorgeous beach that would defy the laws of reality and never move. And that's pretty much what we did. We found a lovely small resort with a gorgeous pool right smack on the most stunning piece of beach this planet has to offer. The tough decisions of the day included beach or pool? And really why not do both, and so that's pretty much what each day looked like, a bit of pool lounging and a bit of beach bumming. We only went off campus once the entire week (for a fun snorkelling and conch diving excursion), and that was just perfect. Oh, and I hardly took any photos, so enjoy one of the shortest but most beautiful posts ever.
