Remembering

The sun came out today after a few very soggy, grey days.  It seemed poetically timed in honour of Remembrance Day.  As we stood for two minutes of silence this morning with the uplifting warmth of the sun streaming through the windows, I couldn't help but be filled with overwhelming gratitude for those who have sacrificed their lives in the quest of freedom, both in this land and in nations the world over.  To those who have paid our way, there are not words sufficient enough to say thank you.  There is a special place in heaven for you, and we are forever in your debt.

Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet - rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.

We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders Fields.

And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead.
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought
In Flanders Fields.
