Day two we awoke and continued our journey east to Arfoud in the eastern part of Morocco. It would be our longest day driving, but otherwise a more low-key day of sightseeing.
We stopped to see a date plantation, not far from where our guide was from.
The most hot and dusty palm tree experience I have ever had. It was a bit surprising seeing all these beautiful palms in the middle of the desert.
Our guide showing us the traditional way of harvesting the date crops.
This stop was the first time I really felt like I was in Africa (Egypt never felt like Africa).
Empty date booths. It became clear very early on in our travels that we were definitely traveling in the off season. It hovered around 110° the whole time. We knew it would be hot before we planned this trip, but we didn't know that this would mean we virtually had the whole place to ourselves. We seldom saw other travellers.
Rest stop for lunch and swimming
Our group's resident gymnast showing us some tricks!
Another much-needed pool break, and we were the only ones at this guesthouse
Our guide with all of the children and the woven camel grass necklaces he made for each of them.
Back on the bus
All the kids' swimsuits hanging to dry on the bus
Asleep in the aisle
At our second night's riad. This place was quaint and truly out in the middle of nowhere. But the big hit here was the fabulous air-conditioning in all the rooms that worked like a champ. The first time we felt real cool since arriving in Morocco. Felt so good!
Everyone huddled around the one table that had a WiFi signal
Trevon setting up his play station
Can you feel the cool here? It's the A/C!
Our guide and driver enjoying tea outside the riad
Our "neighbourhood" for the night
Our ride
Trevon busting out his mad drumming skills with our riad host
Our air-conditioned traveling cinema!
