Thirtysomething

Last week was my birthday. I don't usually document anything related to MY birthday, and up until this one adding another year to my age never struck me in any particular way. Now that I'm officially closer to 40 than 30 I'm a little freaked out, so this birthday has had a bigger psychological impact than anything that has preceded it, except maybe turning 10, which was a huge deal, too! I'm a little rattled by the idea of being in my 40's. Sure increasing numbers of friends are sending out 40th birthday invites, and sooner or later it would happen to me too. But it has always seemed to be something I could surely file in that "later" category, that very far off "later" category. Now it ain't so far off!

More than my mini-midlife crisis, this birthday was truly memorable all on its own. Nothing earth-shattering, just a lot of lovely, thoughtful ways that good friends and family made my day special. Flowers, thoughtful gifts from across many oceans, cards, e-cards, texts, Facebook messages, homemade gifts from my children, dear friends bringing goodies and taking me to lunch, and of course my sweet husband starting my day off with breakfast in bed and ending it with my favourite cupcakes. So grateful for such kindness.

When I saw this box, I was already in love. I absolutely adore Ladurée! Thanks to my dear, dear friend for sending me something all the way from Oz!

Not sure where I'm going to display this; it's much too nice to use as a key ring. I think it shall adorn my Christmas tree this year!

Thanks to my two dear friends here in London for a lovely birthday lunch; you made my day!

More beautiful flowers from my lit teacher.

So many more gestures of birthday cheer; thank you all for making my day so special!
